Wheel size modifications are common on all types of vehicles. After all, vehicle owners want to make their ride their own. But if you’ve purchased a used car, are you certain the wheel size hasn’t been changed? Before turning to popular tire sizes, cover your bases.
Grasp an understanding of what specific size you’re driving on now. This is more beneficial than searching the popular tire sizes of your specific vehicle model. And yes, this information is easily accessible; it’s written right on your current set of tires.
You’ll find numbers and letters on the sidewall of your tires. These represent the tire type, the width, and the aspect ratio. They even tell you the diameter, construction type, load index, and speed rating. Sometimes this is more information than you might need, but it’s important to know where you stand.
Our recommendation is to search for tires by size. This is the case whether you’re buying cheap car tires or leasing to own wheels and tires.
Are Tires Interchangeable?
While you want to stay consistent, there is some wiggle room regarding your tire width. We’re often asked about different sizes from customers.
For instance, customers want to know if they can use 275 tires instead of 265. In this instance, the answer is most likely yes. Since this is only a 4% difference in tire width, you likely won’t notice any change while driving.
The same can be said about a 235 set instead of a 225 set of tires. However, you’ll start to get into characteristics that are worth speaking to the professionals about. It isn’t all about whether the tire fits.
A 235 set is a bit wider. And so, depending on the type of vehicle and the location you’re driving, this could make a difference. What is important is that just because a tire fits, doesn’t necessarily make it the best tire for you.
On the other hand, a jump in tire size could improve your performance, such as jumping to a 70 from a 65. The result will mean less rotations and better control. Overall, a smoother ride.
